Tamkang University Electrical Engineering Department Faces 'Mass Absence' Crisis! Only 1 Out of 9 Elective Students Shows Up, Pr

A university classroom experienced a scene where almost the entire class was absent! A "Algorithms" elective course at Tamkang University's Electrical Engineering Department, originally with 9 enrolled students, saw only 1 student attend on October 12th. Professor Rao Jian-qi, who had prepared diligently, couldn't hide his disappointment and announced a class cancellation on the spot, sparking heated online discussions. According to a student's account, they arrived about 8 minutes late that day and initially thought they had entered the wrong room. However, only the professor was sitting alone at the lecturer's desk. This course focuses on programming concepts and practical problem-solving, and the professor was usually very dedicated, making the sole attending student feel both sympathetic and apologetic. Professor Rao later admitted in a course announcement that many students had requested leave for various reasons that day, including some who applied for personal leave due to travel. He stated that he simply wanted students to truly learn algorithms and that make-up classes were acceptable, but facing an empty classroom inevitably made him sad, leading him to decide to cancel class for that week. However, the latest news is not that the professor will stop teaching altogether! According to follow-up reports on October 14th, the professor, through the one student who attended, responded that classes will resume normally next week and welcomes anyone interested to audit; however, due to limited classroom space, it can only accommodate about 30 people. After the incident was exposed, netizens discussed the importance of student attendance attitudes and mutual respect between teachers and students. When teachers are willing to teach diligently, students should also cherish learning opportunities and not let a class end only in disappointment. If you choose it, just go to class. Taking leave for travel..... If it were me, with so few people, unless it was an absolute emergency, I would never dare to take leave and skip class😅
