Plain Congee and Side Dishes ~ A Simple, Delicious Taste of Childhood Memories I've Been Craving
I took my daughter to school a bit earlier this morning, and since there was still a lot of time before the shuttle bus arrived, I decided to stop by the market. Suddenly, I really wanted some plain congee with side dishes! Unfortunately, after walking around the market, the two shops that had them both had side dishes similar to bento box meals, nothing like the perfect companions I imagined for plain congee. Undeterred, I decided to walk a bit further, following the shuttle bus route. Finally, I found the ideal side dishes for my plain congee! It's these items in the photo: braised wheat gluten, preserved radish omelet, fried dates (bean curd), and spicy fermented tofu!!!! These are practically the 'Big Four' of the congee side dish world!!!! (Though it would be even more perfect with some pork floss and salted egg). These are truly my childhood memories; you absolutely cannot have congee without them! It was definitely worth the difficult walk. I must savor this simple delicacy. It's okay even if I watch the shuttle bus drive away because I'm enjoying it so much. There's a bus stop right ahead anyway! In the end, the shuttle bus really did drive away right in front of me 😆😆😆
