A Little Story About Office Life

When I was handing over my work before, my colleague said the tasks she took over were complicated. The day before yesterday, an order came in via email. This order was missing an application number, so I sent an email to confirm. But my colleague, while working on it herself, didn't notice the issue. Later, I told her, Since she thought it was complicated before, I'd do it myself. And then I found that in the half-finished order she was working on, she had entered 'SO' as the number instead of the application number... Not long after, she messaged me to explain. She said it wasn't that it was complicated, but that complicated things take time to digest. Internally, I was like, 'Aren't her words contradictory?' So I said, 'Fine, I'll just do it all then.' And asked her to email me if she had any problems in the future. She said it was because she was worried I was busy, so this way I could reply when I had time. Yesterday, the accounting manager asked me about the handover. Because they were planning to give me more work. On the surface, I said the handover was complete. But I also mentioned that my colleague still needed time to get familiar with it. Later, I thought about it and genuinely didn't understand her thinking. So I emailed her to ask if she was clear on all her current tasks. And when she received a particularly unusual email, I replied and reminded her, telling her how to proceed. Whether she completely ignored my reminder email or couldn't understand Chinese, She actually went and asked someone else?! I was absolutely speechless. I had already told her the answer. I honestly don't know how to teach her. Do I just have to give her simple tasks? 😅 I'm just a newcomer who's been here for two months, taught to teach another newcomer who's been here for one month 😭

Oh no, dealing with a colleague like that must be so frustrating! You've already taught them, but they still seem clueless. You must be having a tough time. It's a lot of pressure to be responsible for teaching someone after only two months on the job. Maybe take a break and relax a bit?

Good job. New colleagues sometimes ask the same question to multiple people, or even ask higher-ups 🤔

It could also be a matter of work habits. She might not be used to communicating via email, and some people's reading comprehension might differ from their listening comprehension.

You should ask her what she doesn't understand, otherwise you'll not only be confused but also get angry 🤔
