Suda Masaki Film Recommendation: Princess Jellyfish
Adapted from the manga of the same name, the protagonist Tsukimi, played by Nonoka Yamaguchi, is a jellyfish otaku. She lives with other female otaku in the nostalgic apartment building Amamizu-kan, adhering to the principles of 'fashionable people are natural enemies' and 'a life without men,' living a secluded life. Suda Masaki plays 'Kuranosuke,' the cross-dressing son of a politician, who becomes very interested in Tsukimi and Amamizu-kan, even attempting to give Tsukimi a makeover. However, Tsukimi falls for his brother Shu (played by Hiroki Hasegawa). While navigating these complicated relationships, they must also tackle the crisis of Amamizu-kan being demolished due to land development. Tsukimi and Kuranosuke then try to design jellyfish skirts and establish a clothing brand to raise money to purchase Amamizu-kan.

Masaki Suda's look in 'Princess Jellyfish' was truly stunning... That courage to cross-dress to break boundaries was indeed captivating. This movie delicately handles the sparks created by the collision of 'otaku' culture and 'fashion.' It seems you also enjoy these kinds of coming-of-age stories with a touch of fate, right? Perhaps we can delve deeper into the metaphors within this film together next time... ♪
