Zhang Fei's Brush

When you think of Zhang Fei from the Three Kingdoms, the image of a fierce, brave, and rugged warrior often comes to mind. However, the historical Zhang Fei was actually a gentle scholar with exceptional literary talent and artistic sensibility in his private life. He was not only skilled at writing beautiful cursive script but also loved to capture the beautiful things in life with his brush. Zhang Fei was particularly adept at painting beautiful women and charming birds and flowers. During the breaks in his stern and tense military life, he most enjoyed sitting in his tent, calming his mind, and carefully observing the small birds or flowers in the garden, bringing them to life on paper with delicate brushstrokes. This stark contrast between his fierce exterior and the romantic tenderness he harbored within revealed a particularly endearing and moving side of Zhang Fei.
