Item #: SCP-171 Object Class: Euclid Special Containment Procedures: SCP-171 is housed in a 4500-liter saltwater tank within the biological research wing of Area-12. While SCP-171's secretions and hosts pose no immediate danger, personnel are to adhere to minimizing contact with secretions and hosts. All conversations between hosts and researchers must be recorded and transcribed verbatim. Human hosts are to be provided with a vegetarian diet, determined by the host's preference. Other animal hosts are to be provided with appropriate diets. The tank water is to be replaced with fresh saltwater regularly. Description: SCP-171 was initially believed to be a microbial colony similar to SCP-968 or SCP-165, but further investigation revealed SCP-171 to be an entity measuring 300 meters in length upon initial encounter. SCP-171 is a reticulated matrix of fine tendrils composed of neurons, mucus glands, and muscle fibers, suspended in a layer of fine foam it generates. The entity is incapable of self-locomotion and does not actively attack or prey on other living organisms, but rather attempts to form a symbiotic relationship with any organism it comes into contact with.
