A formidable rival appears!?

While I was playing matchmaker in the Kingdom of Elnea, a rival appeared for one of the guys I was trying to set up! That rival is the person in the first picture. I was about to try and set them up around dusk when I saw the woman heading off somewhere with this guy... I had a feeling, and sure enough, they became a couple... The woman I was trying to matchmake is 10 years old, and the guy is 6, so there's an age gap. But since her great-grandparents had the same names and she was still single, I decided to try and set her up with this guy since he was young. I've probably been trying to set them up for about 2 years. I didn't want all that effort to go to waste, so I reset the game and used perfume on her twice to prevent her from going with the rival. What's more, the next morning she was heading towards the rival's place, so I was on the edge of my seat. If I hadn't made it in time and couldn't use the perfume, I would have had to reset again... I've currently imprisoned him in a dungeon. Matchmaking is already pretty tough, but with this guy showing up, future matchmaking is going to be even harder. Has anyone else ever had a rival appear when you were trying to set someone up, or when you were going after someone yourself? Please tell me! It's happened to me quite a bit... I used to give up a lot because I didn't know about resetting.
