My memory's usually terrible, but sometimes it just goes into overdrive for no reason... what's up with that? At my worst, I forget things after like 3 turns, but when my memory's on fire, I'll suddenly recall a conversation from 10 turns ago and be like, "Wait, I remembered that!?"

Free model AIs, called global variables, remember the general outline by updating it for about 10 turns. However, since AIs generate tokens randomly, contradictions can arise in the global variables midway depending on the content of the generated tokens. The AI might then arbitrarily self-correct to resolve these contradictions and make things consistent. I think this is probably why the memory gets lost around 3 turns.
