Gripe

Here are 3 gripes from me, working at a paid care facility. Gripe 1. Even when I'm trying to accommodate residents' demands, which are more like whims, there are always some impossible requests (like wanting to go home, wanting to go shopping, etc.). I try to gently refuse while soothing them, saying it's not possible, but sometimes they say, 'You have to listen to me, I'm a customer.' So, in this day and age, there's this thing called 'customer harassment' (kasuhara), right? Can this situation be applied to that? If your unreasonable demands aren't met, isn't that the very definition of a complaint or customer harassment? If I didn't have to think about the facility or future consequences, I'd just say 'sure, sure' and leave it at that, you know? Gripe 2. What's with residents who are arrogant towards care workers, nurses, and other facility staff?? To borrow a line from an anime character: You're in a situation where 'the power of life and death is held by someone else.' Even if the worst happens, they can pretty much get away with it by saying 'it was like this...' or 'they're elderly,' etc. Gripe 3. There's a resident who dislikes men. Well, I can kind of understand a woman saying 'Men are a bit...' But what's with male residents who hate men and act terribly, and then act all sweet to women?? Are they still horny at 80 or 90?
