I guess they feel comfortable near you. You might not realize it yourself, but animals can sense those things~ The cat probably knows that you're kind and that it can relax when it's near you.

Are they interfering? Maybe they don't trust you yet and are still assessing the situation~ Perhaps they're testing if they can truly trust you?
