My friend asked me to "absolutely come," so I canceled my plans to attend a wedding. However, my name wasn't at the reception. While I was wondering about it, the groom laughed and told me, "Someone canceled, so I called you." Apparently, I was just there to fill a spot from the beginning. Still, I figured the bride wasn't at fault, so I stayed for the entire reception. But afterwards, the groom's remark, "I went out of my way to invite you," changed the mood. And then, the groom himself ended up in a bind due to a "lack of guests."
