I just started today, what should I do first?

I've recently become interested in the Sunlit Valley mod and have been trying to look into it. I found out I need to install some kind of tool to use it. Since this is my very first time installing mods, I was wondering if there's anyone here who has installed mods multiple times. Please give me some tips on how to install various mods ㅠ

After starting, I roughly gathered 4 iron, made 1 bucket and 1 shield, found lava grass, and went through the nether portal. I found Enderman biomes by wandering around a bit, but I don't know how to find a fortress..
