This is the 2024 tvN 16-episode time-slip romance drama [Lovely Runner], starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon, based on the web novel (Tomorrow's Best) by Kim Bbang. The main plot revolves around Im Sol (Kim Hye-yoon), a fan devastated by the death of idol star Ryu Sun-jae (Byeon Woo-seok), who gave her the strength to live. She travels back in time through Ryu Sun-jae's own watch, which she won at an auction, and struggles to save him. As the drama gained immense popularity throughout its broadcast, Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon quickly solidified their positions as leading actors. In particular, actress Kim Hye-yoon, who played Im Sol, received rave reviews for becoming the character herself, delivering an outstanding performance that could be said to have carried 60-70% of the drama on her own. What's particularly noteworthy is that despite achieving relatively low viewership ratings of around 5%, it generated significant buzz on social media and OTT platforms, creating a unique phenomenon. It can be considered a landmark drama as it set a precedent that content success can no longer be solely judged by live broadcast ratings.

Today, I'd like to introduce the drama 'The Cursed Romance' starring Park Eun-bin and Yang Se-jong. This tvN weekend drama, aired in 2026, is an occult romance about a chaebol heiress who can see ghosts and a passionate prosecutor who is afraid of them. Park Eun-bin plays Cheon Yeo-ri, the CEO of Reina Hotel who can see ghosts, and Yang Se-jong plays Ma Kang-wook, a prosecutor who digs deep into cases. Yeo-ri always wears gloves and keeps her distance from people due to the secret that anyone she touches can also see ghosts. One day, she meets Kang-wook, who is afraid of ghosts, and their special connection begins. Although ghosts appear in the plot, it wasn't scary but rather a lighthearted watch with a blend of romance and comedy. I was particularly impressed by how Park Eun-bin portrayed both the cold, charismatic side and the human side of Yeo-ri.

This is the first Korean drama to feature the niche sport of 'rugby' prominently. The drama's title, 'Try,' signifies scoring in a rugby match, while also symbolizing the determination and courage to charge forward with the ball. The story begins when Joo Ga-ram, once a rugby idol, disappears after a doping scandal and returns to his alma mater to lead the rugby team. However, this rugby team is literally the perennial last place. Here, a somewhat suspicious, eccentric, and unpredictable coach makes the kids who had given up start playing again, and those kids, in turn, help the coach become human again. It's a sports drama about young athletes filled with a sense of defeat healing each other's wounds and growing together towards winning the national championship. Honestly, I watched it without high expectations because it had the typical setup of a sports drama, but it effectively captured the underlying processes within a simple story with great immersion. I recommend 'Try' for its passionate energy and touching moments.

I think I've watched this show multiple times too, haha. Season 1 feels like the initial build-up for Bad Guys, focusing on the story and narrative. "Catching bad guys with bad guys" It's about a nationwide gangster, a psychopath, and a hitman using their abilities(?) to take down serial killers and criminals. Starring: Kim Sang-joong, Ma Dong-seok, Park Hae-jin, Jo Dong-hyuk, Kang Ye-won. Season 1 was pre-produced. After the drama ended, the actors' salaries skyrocketed lol, you can probably guess who lol. Season 2 seems to be a completely new setup. It's almost like a spin-off. Season 2's action is insane lol. It's a shame all the cast members from the previous season were replaced though.. In S1, the police are the protagonists; in S2, it's the prosecutor. The cast for Season 2 is: Park Joong-hoon, Joo Jin-mo, Ji Soo, Kim Mu-yeol, Yang Ik-june. There's a bit of a motto added. The team led by the prosecutor joins forces with Joo Jin-mo, who was a gang leader, and Ji Soo, who used to do dirty work, to take down a bigger evil. Available for streaming on TVING.

Today's recommended show is my third "meal buddy" show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine / B99. It's set in a police station, so it might seem like a crime procedural, but it's actually a comedy where a bunch of quirky characters get together and cause hilarious chaos. Each episode is about 20 minutes long, and you can watch it on Netflix! To briefly introduce the characters: There's Detective Jake, who's a genius but has the maturity of a grade-schooler. There's Captain Holt, the ultimate poker face. There's Terry, the muscle-bound guy who's obsessed with yogurt and his family. ...and so on. Individually, the characters seem quite competent, but when they all get together, they turn into a bunch of kids running around the NYPD's 99th precinct in a chaotic fashion. The character interactions are great, and if you like sitcoms, I highly recommend it!

Today, I want to introduce a drama that you can watch with a lighthearted laugh, called 'Secretive Gratitude'. It's a work that cheerfully tells the story of various incidents and people within a company. The story unfolds as unexpected events occur one by one amidst what appears to be an ordinary work life. Especially, the banter between the characters and the comedic scenes that naturally arise from the situations were more fun than I expected, making it easy to watch without feeling burdened. It's not just lighthearted throughout, as the process of resolving the incidents is also included, adding its own kind of fun. It's not a drama that's only heavy; there were scenes where I could laugh in between, so I remember watching it comfortably. Above all, I'm a fan of actress Shin Hye-sun, so I watched it with trust, and it was indeed a work I could enjoy.

The opposite of 'to love' wasn't 'to hate'. It was 'to abandon'. I think it's the #1 drama that comes to mind first when fall and winter arrive. (Actually, I think of it in any season haha) It was a drama that left such a deep impression and lingering feelings for me. The main cast includes IU, Lee Joon Gi, etc.! It's the story of IU (Hae Soo) from a noble family and Lee Joon Gi (Wang So), the man who will become king. A perfect drama, except for the ending... lololol It's been 10 years now, I wish they'd do something like Goblin did for it..ㅠ I'd rather they just say they're filming it now..... Anyway, from the OST to the famous lines, I remember it all. There were so many contrasting moods, tears and laughter flowed abundantly..... I've already binge-watched it countless times!
