First off, you absolutely need to tame a Moschops early on. You can't get rare mushrooms, rare flowers, or giant honey in the early game. You have to use berries. It's an early-game goat creature that doesn't even need a saddle. If you do a note run with a Moschops, you'll easily reach level 80. Also, if you kill dung beetles with a Moschops, it gives you more chitin. Use that to craft a Pteranodon saddle, make bolas, tranquilizer arrows, and a bow, then tame a Pteranodon. (If your server rates are high, you won't need narcotics, but with default rates, you will. Depending on the level, using a DodoRex can be convenient in these situations.) Now, you can either go for an Argentavis right away or build a base. For a base, if you're playing single-player, you can just live with foundations. For an Argentavis, you need to set up a taming pen, which is explained in detail on YouTube, so check that out. Argentavis are abundant in the Volcano biome. Once you've got an Argentavis, you can either start preparing for boss fights or just chill and decorate your base. A Baryonyx is a solid early-game combat tame, and a tamed Carno from the Redwood is also useful. Once you've tamed a bodyguard, let's go tame a Rex!
