Reinstate the Death Penalty
Bring it back ㅜㅜ Wasting taxpayer money, majority of citizens agree, the Ministry of Justice must pass it. What about the victims who died unjustly? ㅠ Actively push for the execution of death sentences.

Better to let a hundred guilty people go free than to convict one innocent person.

AuthorPrisons are overcrowded, do we really have to feed heinous criminals with the people's hard-earned money? ㅠㅠㅠㅠ The majority of citizens agree, but the Ministry of Justice is ignoring them. Is this even a country? ㅠ

😭......There's the aspect of 'not creating an unjust victim'...... but there are also diplomatic issues. Many countries have abolished the death penalty due to human rights concerns, and if South Korea doesn't support this, it could lead to unequal clauses in diplomatic relations or countries refusing to engage in dialogue altogether. That's why it's practically abolished (though the death penalty legally exists). While it needs to be abolished for diplomacy, the public wants it back, so it's kept in law but not executed. And....... the unwillingness to take the lead themselves probably plays a part too.

As others have mentioned, the death penalty isn't enforced for various reasons. If that's the case, I think it's only right to at least eliminate or minimize welfare for death row inmates. It's annoying to see them complaining about shortages or demanding things in prison these days.

As the person above said, it's a very difficult situation to revive them due to diplomatic issues, and it's probably impossible. Personally, I think it would be more painful to be kept alive in prison under bad conditions, unable to die and being forcibly kept alive to rot, than to die. So, I think it's better to just minimize the welfare for death row inmates.

Preventing the wrongful execution of one person was a concern before the 2000s. Are there any death row inmates sentenced after that who claim they are innocent? In reality, higher courts often commute sentences, so death sentences are rarely carried out, usually reduced to life imprisonment. In the past, when technology was less advanced and politics/military were involved, false confessions happened, but now, with improved investigative techniques and solid evidence, death sentences are handed down. Even the notorious Oh Won-seok case resulted in a life sentence. While it's important to prevent wrongful executions, for those who are definitively guilty of heinous murders, for whom death sentences are currently imposed, I believe the sentences should be carried out.

One more thing I wanted to mention: I read somewhere that someone strongly supports the death penalty but hesitates to advocate for its immediate implementation because they believe judges shouldn't have to bear the immense pressure and guilt of deciding someone's fate. You might think it's ridiculous to hesitate when it comes to executing heinous criminals who shouldn't exist, but I also think it wouldn't be that simple when you're actually facing them and delivering a verdict.
