I think you have to pay to clear it as you level up the Cathedral. I'm currently at Cathedral level 9.

It's a time-consuming game since the goal is to level up the citadel. I also raised my citadel to level 8 and then to 11, but I forgot about the incomplete ones and missed out by not inquiring.

It was a bit easy at first, but later on, it became hard to collect stars, so it was tough to upgrade the citadel.

If you're aiming for hidden level 18, it's much easier to join a guild with many members. It's possible even without spending money. Speed-up items are either from the guild shop or by defeating elite monsters, so a guild where rallies gather quickly is good.
