The world is vast and full of peculiar plants~

It's easy to think that plants need sunlight to bloom, but there are plants in the world that defy this common sense. The Rhizanthella gardneri is a rare orchid found in Western Australia, a unique plant that spends most of its life underground, even forming its inflorescence beneath the surface. Unlike typical orchids, it doesn't extend showy leaves or flower stalks far above ground. Even more surprising is that, unlike most plants that produce their own nutrients using sunlight, it obtains its necessary carbon sources through a special relationship with underground fungi. As it adapted to the dark and limited underground environment, the need for leaves and stems decreased, and instead, a survival method connected to fungi developed. It's truly fascinating that it quietly lives and even blooms beneath the ground, where it seems like nothing exists. We've explored the survival secrets of the Rhizanthella gardneri, a plant completely different from what we knew.
