Anyone studying with Duolingo?

I was expecting a study app that first explains words and meanings, and then lightly introduces grammar. Duolingo feels like it just throws quizzes at you from the start? When you tap on a word, its meaning appears, but I feel it's shown too vaguely. Also, there's a streak feature, and it bothers me a bit that it quizzes me on words I've never seen before ㅠㅜㅠㅠ. I like Duolingo itself, but I wonder if I'm setting it up wrong, causing it to teach this way? Or is the app just like this? By the way, I'm studying Spanish! Are there any Duolingo users out there? 🥹🥹
