Don't leave night lights on all night! Study links sleep light exposure to heart thickening and stroke risk
Subtle light during sleep might be silently altering your heart structure. A study published in the 'European Heart Journal,' involving over 11,000 participants, suggests that even light levels exceeding just 3 lux in the sleep environment may be associated with harmful changes in heart structure and function. 3 lux is roughly equivalent to a low-brightness phone screen or hallway light peeking through a door gap. Researchers had participants wear a wrist-worn light sensor for seven consecutive days. About three years later, they underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. The results showed that compared to those who slept in near-total darkness, individuals with high light exposure had thickened left ventricular walls and reduced diastolic function of the heart muscle. A dose-response relationship was observed, where more light exposure led to worse outcomes. Another long-term follow-up indicated that high light exposure was linked to a 29% increased risk of heart failure, a 33% increased risk of stroke, and a 26% increased risk of cardiovascular death. The underlying mechanism is closely related to circadian rhythm disruption. Nighttime light suppresses melatonin secretion, preventing the sympathetic nervous system from fully relaxing. This disrupts the normal nocturnal dip in blood pressure and heart rate, which can lead to endothelial dysfunction and elevated inflammation levels over time. Shortened sleep duration plays a partial mediating role. Recommendations for 'light reduction' in the bedroom include: turning off unnecessary night lights, covering indicator lights on electronic devices, and using blackout curtains. If you fear the dark, consider keeping a low-position, warm-colored dim light and wearing an eye mask. Ah, I sleep with the lights off now, but my power strip has an indicator light and the AC has a display light. I can't turn those off 🤔 My curtains are also semi-transparent. Changing those would be a hassle... and I'm not used to eye masks. Oh well, I'll just leave it as it is 😑

Middle-aged Man Elbows Bus Driver for Not Waving Him Down, Then Spills Drink on Floor
A violent incident involving a bus passenger occurred in Daan District, Taipei City, on the afternoon of the 11th. A 60-year-old man surnamed Lai was taking the No. 630 bus. Because he did not signal to stop the bus according to regulations and instead slapped the door to get on, the 35-year-old driver surnamed Huang reminded him that he 'should extend his hand to hail the bus.' Lai became enraged and lost control of his emotions. Witnesses posted on social media accusing Lai of verbally abusing the driver with profanity throughout the ride after boarding. He even attacked Huang's head with his elbow and pushed him to the ground. Not only did he illegally drink beverages on the bus, but when he saw the driver recording evidence with his phone, he retorted, 'I'll keep filming until your mom is satisfied,' and then deliberately spilled his drink on the bus floor and seats, displaying extremely malicious behavior. Upon receiving the report, the police arrived. Both parties initially stated they did not wish to press charges. However, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation took a firm stance, providing a慰問 red envelope to comfort the driver and fully assisting Huang in filing charges for assault and public insult, emphasizing that they 'will not be lenient.' Huang later went to the hospital for an injury examination and preserved evidence. Legally, a passenger attacking a driver while the bus is in motion is subject to the crimes of assault and public insult under the Penal Code, and may also violate public endangerment laws, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Police typically transfer cases involving charges of assault, public endangerment, and coercion. After the video was exposed, netizens became outraged, leaving comments such as 'Support the driver pressing charges' and 'Such vicious thug behavior.' Why blur the face of this trash... They should expose him so everyone can see how thick-skinned he is. People like this are probably spoiled by lenient judges, thinking they can just cause trouble and get away with it. 🙄

Selling a house to your son, even if he transfers the money, could still be considered a gift! Tax authorities check 'where the
When parents and children buy property, don't just keep the remittance record; the complete cash flow is key. For real estate transactions between relatives within the second degree of kinship, such as parents and children, it's not enough to just have a sales contract and the final remittance record. Where the funds came from, whether they truly belong to the buyer, and whether the payment process can be fully proven are all crucial factors for the tax authorities in determining whether the transaction is a genuine sale or involves a gift. If the house price was indeed paid with the son's own funds and can be fully proven, the transaction can be treated as a sale. Conversely, if the money was first lent to the son by the father and then remitted back by the son, or if it was obtained with the seller father providing a guarantee, it may fall under the scope of deemed gifts stipulated in the 'Estate and Gift Tax Act'.
