The Person in the Wall, Chapter 20 (Finale) (Original Fiction, Suspense)

At 12:03 AM, Wang Jing'an finally met Gao Zhenwei, who had been missing for ten years. Faced with her questions, Gao Zhenwei only said, "Gao Jianguo wasn't me, nor was it K, and Mom didn't kill him." He produced a recording left by Teacher Zhang. In the recording, Teacher Zhang said that ten years ago, she discovered someone had been manipulating the Gao family from behind the scenes, someone who knew everyone's secrets. Just then, three knocks echoed from the recording, followed by a strange child's voice: "Don't open the door." Gao Zhenwei took Wang Jing'an to the basement. After they knocked on the wall, a response came from within. Officer Zhou arrived to investigate but found only old pipes and hollow structures, unable to prove anyone was actually inside the wall. Days later, the cases of Gao Jianguo and Teacher Zhang were still under investigation. Gao Zhenwei reunited with his brother, and Gao Zhenxiang finally learned his brother was alive and began to slowly emerge from the shadows of the past. Although the case was temporarily closed, the answer to "the person in the wall" remained elusive. One evening, as Wang Jing'an was leaving the counseling center, she passed the basement, and three knocks came from behind the wall again. Knock. Knock. Knock. She softly asked: "Who are you?" There was no answer. A moment later, a fourth knock sounded. Knock. Then, a child's voice came through: "Teacher, thank you." Wang Jing'an didn't press further, only softly saying: "Good night." She turned and left, and the basement fell back into darkness. No one knows if there was a child in the wall. No one knows if the final knock was an echo from the pipes, a secret signal, or... A child who waited ten years.
