Movie Recommendation - The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon

The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon is one of the most satisfying crime action films from Taiwan in recent years. Ethan Juan plays wanted criminal Chen Kuei-lin, who, upon learning his life is nearing its end, discovers he's only ranked third on the most-wanted list. He decides to emulate the ancient hero Chu-ko Liang and personally eliminate the top two notorious criminals, all in the pursuit of leaving a name behind. The film's action sequences are solid, bloody, and exhilarating. The opening chase and gunfight are full of tension, quickly drawing viewers into the plot. Ethan Juan completely sheds his idol image, portraying Chen Kuei-lin's transformation from madness and ruthlessness to gradually seeking self-worth with great depth. The performances of Chen Yi-wen and Ben Yuen are also distinctive, making the characters more three-dimensional. While ostensibly about gang warfare and revenge, the film cleverly incorporates reflections on human nature like 'greed, anger, and ignorance.' This allows audiences to enjoy the violent aesthetics and thrilling pace while also reconsidering notions of good and evil, faith, and the value of life. Overall, it's packed with entertainment value without sacrificing depth.
