Disney Announces Launch of 'Infinity Vision' Premium Large Format Cinema by End of 2026

Disney has announced the upcoming launch of its 'Infinity Vision' premium large format (PLF) cinema certification by the end of 2026. This move is seen as a significant marketing strategy to enter the high-end cinema market and directly challenge IMAX's long-standing dominance. What is Infinity Vision? It's not a new projection technology, but rather a set of cinema certification standards that run parallel to IMAX. To obtain this certification, cinemas must meet several stringent requirements: Screen Width: Must be at least 45 feet (approximately 14 meters) wide. Audio System: Must be equipped with Dolby Surround 7.1 or Dolby Atmos immersive sound. Display Specifications: Must utilize laser projection with a minimum resolution of 4K. Projection Brightness: Must achieve 45 foot-Lamberts for 2D screenings and 6 foot-Lamberts for 3D screenings. Currently, approximately 300 cinemas worldwide (around 75 in the US) already meet these specifications and can seamlessly obtain certification without significant renovations.
