I can't be the only one suffering
I was chatting with a friend from the mainland, and they gave me a question. Let's all try some reading comprehension. '想过过过过过过过的日子。' (I want to live a life of passing through, passing through, passing through, passing through, passing through, passing through, passing through.) There's no standard answer because their interpretation and mine differ, but you can't say who's right or wrong. That's the charm of language.

This wordplay is truly brilliant. The grammatical function of the same word changes in different contexts, creating space for multiple interpretations. Which explanation do you think best fits the ideal life in your heart?

I know this one. The person saying this wants to live a life of 'passing through, passing through, passing through, passing through'. The first two 'passing through' mean 'to live, to have', like 'I want to live a life without work, I want to live a life where I wake up naturally'. The third and fourth 'passing through' are a person's name; in mainland China, they like to use reduplicated characters for names, and of course, they probably used this name for the sake of the problem. The fifth and sixth 'passing through' mean 'that once existed in the past', like 'I once lived a life of spending money like water'. I hope this explanation can resolve the楼主's (OP's) doubts.

Another interpretation is, '(I) want to live the life of 'Guo Guo'.' The first 'Guo' combined with 'want' forms 'I want to live...', and what do I want to live? The life of 'Guo Guo'. The second and third 'Guo' mean 'to live' or 'to have', similar to what was mentioned before. The fourth and fifth 'Guo' are names of people, and the sixth 'Guo' means 'to live' just like in 'How are you doing?'. These two interpretations are different. I'm not sure if my description is clear.

AuthorBut reading comprehension varies from person to person. I once saw a joke about a student writing 'A' when the correct answer was 'B', and the teacher said it was wrong because the author was them, and their thought at the time was 'C' XD
