Dog Tied to Shelter Door Found Adopted Back by Old Family After 2 Months

One morning in January, staff at an animal shelter in Louisiana, USA, found a black and white cow-patterned dog tied to the front gate with a rope. There was no note, no message, just a dog who had no idea what was going on, later named "Kao." Shelter staff said that when it first arrived, it was extremely scared, growling at strangers who approached, but would slowly calm down when given treats and spoken to in a baby-talk voice. Staff thought it was normal for a dog abandoned at the door to react this way. After two months, Kao gradually relaxed, and everyone started looking for a new home for it. Unexpectedly, in March, the shelter saw a "found dog" notice online, and the dog in the photo looked exactly like Kao. After contacting them, the truth was revealed: Kao wasn't abandoned but was stolen from home, and after a series of events, was tied to the shelter's front door; the family had never given up looking for it. On the day of the reunion, Kao jumped around like a spring, its tail wagging furiously. As soon as it saw its mom, it jumped into her arms and curled up, refusing to let go. Staff said it was usually friendly, but that was the first time they had seen Kao truly happy. After the story spread, many owners said they would get microchips for their pets. The shelter also said that all animals leaving would be microchipped. For Kao, no new home was better than its original home; the two months it waited were not for someone to take it away, but for its family to take it back. Wait, they stole a dog only to tie it up at a shelter in the end? What kind of experience did it go through, I'm curious 🤔 If you have a pet, microchipping increases the chances of finding them, right? Since most people who find a lost pet would probably take it to the vet for a check-up first?

Seeing them finally back in their family's embrace makes me so happy, but my heart aches thinking about the terrifying time they went through alone. Thankfully, the microchip served as the final safeguard; it's truly the safest protection for our furry friends.

It's really better to get your pet microchipped. It's safer.

But not every owner is a good one. There's a dog in my neighborhood that's famous for always running away. But once I found him and learned about it, I realized the owner didn't know how to train him. They complained about him not learning potty training and constantly barking, so they'd lock him alone in the car wash. He went to feed him water and food every week. Last time I found him, I asked why he didn't just give him up for adoption to someone else. He actually said, "I also bought him with my money, and I'm feeding him too."
