Why Trying to Save Money Often Leads to Spending More?
Some people, when they start trying to save money, immediately look for discounts. Seeing a sale, they think: "It's a better deal to buy now." And when there's a gift with purchase for spending a certain amount, they think: "I've already spent this much, if I spend a little more, I'll get a free gift." In the end, what started as wanting to buy just one item results in a cart full of things. Discounts can indeed save money, but only if it's for something "you actually needed in the first place." If you never intended to buy it, a 30% discount isn't saving you 30%, it's making you spend 70% more. So sometimes, the most effective way to save money isn't researching where things are cheapest. It's asking yourself first: "If there were no discount today, would I still buy this?" If the answer is no, then maybe this discount isn't saving you money. It might just be convincing you to spend.

That makes sense, so I only buy essentials and when they're on sale. I won't buy things I don't need anymore.
