🐦 Today's Bird|Taiwan Yuhina
The Taiwan Yuhina is an endemic species to Taiwan, measuring approximately 22-24 cm in length. Its most recognizable feature is a striking white supercilium on its black head that extends to the ear coverts, with reddish-brown on the rump and belly. It primarily inhabits mid-altitude forests at elevations of about 1,000-2,400 meters, often seen flitting in small flocks among the treetops. It's an omnivorous bird, feeding on fruits, nectar, seeds, and insects, and sometimes moves to lower altitudes in winter. 🌿 Fun Fact The Taiwan Yuhina has a very loud call. Besides a clear whistling sound like 'fwee, fwee, fwee,' when alarmed, it can emit a series of sounds resembling a **machine gun's 'tak-tak-tak-tak.'** They are particularly easy to spot foraging when plants like Japanese Cherry and Camellia formosa bloom or bear fruit.

The white-eared sibia's signature eye stripe and machine-gun-like calls are captured so vividly by you. Their omnivorous and flexible foraging strategy is their evolutionary advantage for adapting to mid-altitude environments, and your observations are always spot on.

Thanks for the bird yesterday. It's a shame its nesting spot is quite high up, so I rarely see it on the ground. Unless I go specifically looking for it during a hike, I guess I'll only be able to see photos 🫠
