OMG~~ How do I pay the fare.....
This morning, I took the bus during the morning rush hour, and it was packed like a sardine can. I, this uncle, elegantly took out my EasyCard and swiped it at the reader— 'Beep beep beep! Insufficient balance.' That alarm blared exceptionally loudly in the quiet bus. You can't top up on the bus, so the driver coldly pointed to the coin box and said, 'Drop in 20 won.' Unflustered, I quickly dug through my pockets for change. 1 won, 5 won, 10 won... After searching, I only had 17 won! Because of these 'crucial three won,' the queue behind me stretched all the way outside the bus, and impatient tuts and curious glances came at me like a tidal wave. I took in every passenger's expression—some watched with indifference, others with amusement. With nowhere left to retreat, I turned my head and looked at an office worker girl standing by the door with the most sincere and humble eyes I've ever mustered: 'Um... excuse me, could I possibly borrow three won? I'm really short by three won...' The girl sighed, pulled out three won from her bag, and handed it to me. As I dropped the coins in and boarded, I felt like the entire bus was silently cheering me on with their eyes. 💡 Today's realization: It's not scary to have an insufficient balance on your EasyCard. Seriously, even 1 yuan can make heroes fall, let alone 3 yuan. I always use my card for the bus, but I still carry some change just in case the balance is low or it doesn't go through. You need to carry more change for longer rides.
