🐦 Today's Bird｜Osprey

The Osprey is a winter migratory bird in Taiwan, observable in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, fish farms, and coastal areas during winter. It measures about 56–62 cm in length. Its most recognizable features are a white head with a black eye stripe and a brown band across its chest. In flight, its wings form a distinct M-shape. It feeds almost exclusively on fish, circling above the water to find prey. Upon spotting a fish, it suddenly dives, sometimes plunging its entire body into the water to catch it, then flies to the shore or a tree to enjoy its meal. 🌿 Fun Fact Ospreys have highly specialized feet. Their outer toes can be reversed, and their soles are covered with numerous small, spiny structures that help them firmly grip slippery fish. After catching a fish, they typically orient it head-first before flying away to reduce air resistance.
