Info Share | 'Manchurian Opium Squad' Anime Adaptation Announced

The manga 'Manchurian Opium Squad' has announced an anime adaptation. Details such as the production company, voice actors, and broadcast date have not yet been released. The story is set in Manchuria in 1937. Hiroshi Higata, a former Kwantung Army soldier, leaves the front lines after losing sight in his right eye. To save his sick mother and his struggling family, he begins producing opium using his knowledge of plants and meets a Chinese woman named Lihua. Starting with opium, the two gradually become entangled in the underworld where yakuza, the military, and various factions intersect. This is not based on a true story, but rather a fictional crime suspense story developed with the historical backdrop of Manchuria, the Kwantung Army, and the opium trade of that era. I hadn't read the original manga, but the historical setting + crime suspense aspect piqued my interest 😆 It seems like a heavy theme with potentially a lot of brutal depictions, but I'll watch a few episodes after the anime airs to see how it goes~
