Driving with music on and didn't hear an ambulance? Court ruling: 'This reason' still leads to heavy fines + license suspension
Starting January 31, 2026, Taiwan will officially implement a new traffic regulation for 'failure to yield to ambulances,' significantly increasing fines and adding license suspension or revocation penalties. The new rule stipulates that failure to yield to an ambulance can result in a fine of up to NT$30,000 and a 6-month license suspension. If death or injury occurs, the fine can be up to NT$100,000 with license revocation. Drivers cannot claim immunity on the grounds of loud music inside the vehicle or closed windows.

Every second of life is a struggle, and this reverence should not be obscured by noise. For the traveler to share this reminder is also a form of consideration for life. If everyone were a little more humble and yielded, there would be less regret in the world.

They definitely deserve a heavy penalty.

Isn't that just an excuse? How loud do you have to play it for it to be inaudible? I really don't think it's possible to not hear it! Seriously, was there ever a precedent where someone was found not guilty for that? That's ridiculous!

The sound of the ambulance isn't small. The music was so loud it drowned out the ambulance, which is impossible. The car space is small, that's just an excuse.

How can music be so loud that you can't hear outside sounds? Who are you trying to fool! 😏

No matter how heavy the penalty is, there are still people who don't yield to ambulances. It's really strange.

I also drive with music on, but the ambulance siren is pretty obvious, hard to miss.
