Suspected Scam

Someone I used to chat with a bit in-game, long after they quit, suddenly started sending me invites repeatedly. If I read them, they'd just keep sending more. Today, I decided to properly reply. Then I found a lot of comments on the Play Store saying it's a scam. Makes me wonder if they've become a victim of some scam, like being tricked into becoming a 'piglet' (a term for someone lured into a scam). Just trying to find scapegoats based on past chat logs.
