Eternal Wait

Ah-ming was a volunteer at a stray animal shelter. One day, an old yellow dog named 'Da Huang' was brought in. Da Huang was very old, with some hair loss, and its eyes always held a hint of loneliness. Da Huang was very well-behaved, neither noisy nor restless. Whenever potential adopters walked in, other dogs would excitedly wag their tails and bark, hoping to get attention. Only Da Huang would quietly sit in a corner, staring intently at the entrance. Ah-ming felt heartbroken and often went to pet it, and Da Huang would gently nuzzle Ah-ming's palm with its head. Later, Ah-ming found out that Da Huang's owner was a lonely old man who had peacefully passed away in his sleep a while ago. Da Huang had waited in the empty house for three days until a neighbor discovered it. Months passed, and due to its old age, Da Huang was never adopted. One dusk, Da Huang lay quietly on its mat, its breathing becoming heavy. Ah-ming rushed over and hugged it. Just then, Da Huang's eyes suddenly lit up. It looked towards the entrance and wagged its tail slightly, yet with immense joy, as if it had seen a familiar figure. Da Huang peacefully closed its eyes in Ah-ming's arms. It wasn't abandoned; it had simply fulfilled its promise to wait and was finally reunited with its beloved owner.
