Constellation Myths | Aquarius: The Beautiful Boy Abducted by Zeus ♒

Not sure if this topic is allowed, but please let me know if it isn't 🫡 The symbol for Aquarius is a figure holding a water jug, pouring out water. In Greek mythology, this figure is said to have been a handsome young man! 😆 Legend has it that Ganymede, a prince of Troy, possessed exceptional beauty. One day, while he was herding sheep in the mountains, he caught the eye of Zeus, the king of the gods. Zeus transformed into a giant eagle and took the boy to Mount Olympus, making him the cupbearer to the gods. His duty was to pour the divine wine for the gods, and he was granted eternal youth and immortal life. However, his father was naturally heartbroken when his son was suddenly taken away. To compensate his father, Zeus sent a divine horse as a gift. Later, Ganymede came to be regarded as the figure represented by Aquarius, and the eagle that took him to the heavens became associated with the constellation Aquila (the Eagle). Interestingly, Ganymede was not only the cupbearer to Zeus but, in some classical texts, was also the object of Zeus's affection! This is one of the most common Greek mythological versions for Aquarius, and there are other legends as well~
