Chess Tutorial: The Most Complex Piece, the Pawn
They have the largest count, with eight in total. Their attack range is one square diagonally forward to the left and right. Their movement is one square forward. Unlike other pieces, they have a special starting move. When a pawn moves for the first time since the start, it can choose to move two squares forward or one square forward (calculated separately for each pawn). Special Capture: [En Passant] After moving past the halfway line, if an opponent's pawn moves two squares and lands next to your pawn, you can capture it by moving one square diagonally forward (to the square the captured pawn passed through). This move is not used often, so I'm not very familiar with it. This is all I know. If any experts understand this, please feel free to add more information.
