Priority Seating Replaces "Courtesy Seat"

=== "Courtesy Seat" Renamed to "Priority Seat" and the Debate Over Its Existence === The "courtesy seat" (now "priority seat") has long been a flashpoint for conflict on Taiwan's public transportation. Supporters of retaining or renaming it argue that the courtesy seat represents society's consideration and warmth towards the elderly, weak, pregnant, and those with hidden needs. They believe that by strengthening the message of "sit if you need it," there's no need to abolish this benevolent system due to a few extreme incidents. Opponents and younger demographics criticize that the courtesy seat has already become a tool for "moral blackmail" and "public shaming by justice warriors." Many young people who are unwell or extremely exhausted after work are often verbally berated or even physically pulled by elders because their "illness isn't visible." Many netizens advocate for "completely abolishing the courtesy seat and changing all of them to regular seats," believing that anyone can offer their seat if they are willing, and there's no need to create a specific seat that provokes confrontation and moral policing.

When faced with such conflicts, perhaps we should return to the essence of 'consideration' rather than just clinging to the form of the seat itself. What's truly precious isn't the rule, but the compassion in your heart to extend a helping hand for the inconvenience of others. If everyone can be a little more inclusive, this goodwill can truly become a force for social stability, rather than a source of opposition. What do you think?

I wouldn't dare sit in seats like these, I'm afraid I'll run into a 'ghost'.

Besides the high rent, it's the issue of seating and the commute time that makes me unwilling to work in Taipei. That's the reason.
