Is charging your phone to only 80% daily really better?

According to foreign media 'Android Authority', modern phone battery life is a significant limitation in usage, and leaving home every morning with only 80% charge means losing 20% of usable capacity from the start. Taking the Galaxy S26 as an example, its battery capacity is 4,300mAh, but if charging is limited to 80%, the actual usable capacity is about 3,440mAh. This could increase 'battery anxiety' for users who frequently navigate, play games, take photos, or use mobile data. On the other hand, modern phone batteries have improved durability compared to the past, with some batteries still maintaining about 80% of their original capacity after around 1,000 to 2,000 charge cycles. Calculating with approximately 1,200 cycles for some flagship phones, even if fully charged once daily, it might take about 2 to 3 years for the capacity to drop to around 80%. If the phone is still usable by then, replacing the battery can restore its longevity. Especially for older phones used for several years, enabling the 80% charge limit might actually reduce practical convenience. After battery aging, if a 5,000mAh capacity has 85% remaining, it's only about 4,250mAh; further limiting charging to 80% reduces the usable capacity to about 3,400mAh. Therefore, while the 80% charge limit does help slow down battery aging, whether it's worth sacrificing 20% of daily battery life depends on usage habits. If you plan to use your phone long-term,

If it's a new battery, it's fine, but old batteries won't work if not fully charged.

Everyone's saying different things. Just buy a power bank and you won't have to worry about running out of battery.

If I can charge anytime nearby, charging only to 80% is fine.

I personally don't panic if my battery is above 80%, so I don't feel the need to calculate battery issues.
