🧠 Today's Trivia

🧠 Today's Trivia Why didn't the plane immediately disintegrate when humans first broke the sound barrier? In the early days of aviation development, many pilots worried that aircraft would lose control due to violent vibrations and airflow changes as they approached the speed of sound, a phenomenon also known as the 'sound barrier.' On October 14, 1947, Chuck Yeager, piloting the experimental aircraft X-1, successfully broke the sound barrier, proving that with proper airframe design, propulsion, and flight controls, humans could safely enter the era of supersonic flight. This breakthrough opened the door for later developments in fighter jets, supersonic passenger planes, and high-speed flight research. Interestingly, the X-1's exterior was inspired by the streamlined design of a bullet, and its slender, orange appearance earned it the nickname 'Glamorous Glennis.'
