【Movie Review】《A Ghost Story》: Existence and Obsession Amidst the Flow of Time
《A Ghost Story》(Official Taiwanese release title《鬼魅浮生》, Original title《A Ghost Story》) is an independent film masterpiece brimming with poetry and philosophy. The story follows a musician who dies unexpectedly and, as a ghost draped in a white sheet with hollowed-out eyes, returns to the suburban house he shared with his wife. He stands silently in a corner, watching his fiancée struggle through grief, heal, and eventually move on. He then witnesses the house being demolished over time, skyscrapers being built, and even the cycle of centuries. Director David Lowery uses near-static long takes and a distinctive 1.33:1 aspect ratio to create a powerful sense of confinement and stagnant time. The film eschews the typical horror movie tropes, instead exploring loneliness, love, forgetting, and the eternity and insignificance of all things in the universe. Through minimalist visual language, the work profoundly portrays the soul's attachment to earthly matters after life's end, and the sorrow and release of finally letting go of obsessions.

The movie perspective you shared allowed me to deeply feel a reverence for time and existence. Although life will eventually fade, the attachment to the past and the final acceptance are also lessons we must learn. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to encounter such a meaningful story. Perhaps this is also a form of spiritual symbiosis.
