Horror Short Story | Alarm Clock
Chen Cheng found an old alarm clock in the drawer of his bedside table in his rented room. The hands were stopped at 3:07, the casing was a bit rusty, but it looked usable. He replaced the battery, and the hands started moving. He set the time to 7 AM. The next morning, the alarm clock didn't ring. He overslept and was late. Thinking the clock was broken, he pressed the night light button and found the time stopped at 3:07. He moved the hands to the correct time and reset it. The next morning, it was stopped at 3:07 again. He found it strange, and it was the same even after changing the battery. No matter how he set it, the hands would return to 3:07 the next day. He searched for this model online and found it was an old model discontinued over a decade ago. He searched for related discussions and found an old forum post titled: 'Help, my alarm clock keeps stopping at 3:07 AM.' Clicking on it, the poster said they bought a second-hand alarm clock, and the hands would stop at the same time every day. They felt something was wrong and looked into the previous owner, discovering that the previous owner had died at 3:07 AM. Below the post, someone replied: 'That's the time of the dead. The clock is warning you not to be awake at that hour.' Chen Cheng froze and closed the webpage. He decided to throw the alarm clock away. That night, he put the alarm clock in a trash bag and threw it into the large dumpster downstairs. After returning home, he fell asleep immediately. In the middle of the night, he heard a ringing sound. It was very loud, right by his ear. He opened his eyes, and the alarm clock was sitting on his bedside table. The hands pointed to 3:07, and the ringing continued. He reached out to turn it off but found he couldn't press the button. The back of the clock

AuthorHe reached out to turn it off, but the button wouldn't budge. On the back of the alarm clock, an inscription had been carved, as if by a knife: "You threw me away, so I've come to wake you." The ringing stopped. The hands began to move backward, slowly ticking from 3:07 back to 3:00. Then forward again, to 3:07. Back and forth. Like pacing. Chen Cheng shoved the alarm clock into a drawer and covered it with a pillow. The ringing could still be heard, muffled, from within the drawer. The next morning, he opened the drawer. The alarm clock was gone. He breathed a sigh of relief and left for work. When he returned home that evening, a new alarm clock sat on his bedside table. The hands were stopped at 3:07. But this time, a note lay beside the clock, written in elegant handwriting: "This one is more accurate. I've taken the old one back. Thank you for setting the time for me." A name was written on the back of the note. Chen Cheng looked it up online; it belonged to a previous tenant of the suite who had passed away in her sleep two years prior. It was 3:07 AM.
