Horror Short Story | The Alarm Clock
Chen Cheng found an old alarm clock in the drawer of his bedside table in his rented room. The hands were stopped at 3:07, and the casing was a bit rusty, but it looked usable. He replaced the battery, and the hands started moving. He set the time correctly, intending for it to ring at 7 AM. The next morning, the alarm clock didn't ring. He overslept and was late. Thinking the clock was broken, he pressed the luminous button and discovered the time was stuck at 3:07. He moved the hands to the correct time and reset it. The next morning, it was stuck at 3:07 again. He found it strange, even after changing the battery, the result was the same. No matter how he set it, the hands would always return to 3:07 the next day. He searched for the model online and found it was an old model from over a decade ago, long discontinued. Searching for related discussions, he found an old forum post with the title: "Help, my alarm clock is always stuck at 3:07 AM." Clicking on it, the poster said they bought a second-hand alarm clock, and the hands would stop at the same time every day. Feeling something was wrong, they investigated the previous owner and discovered that the previous owner had died at 3:07 AM. Someone replied below the post: "That's the time of the dead. The clock is warning you not to be awake at that hour." Chen Cheng froze and closed the webpage. He decided to throw the alarm clock away. That night, he put the alarm clock in a trash bag and threw it into the large dumpster downstairs. After returning home, he fell straight asleep. In the middle of the night, he heard a ringing sound. It was very loud, right by his ear. He opened his eyes, and the alarm clock was sitting on his bedside table. The hands pointed to 3:07, and the ringing continued. He reached out to turn it off, but found the button wouldn't press down. The back of the alarm clock

AuthorHe reached out to turn it off, but the button wouldn't budge. On the back of the alarm clock, an inscription had been carved as if by a knife: "You threw me away, so I came to wake you." The ringing stopped. The hands began to move backward, slowly ticking back from 3:07 to exactly 3:00. Then forward again, to 3:07. Backward again. Forward again. Like pacing back and forth. Chen Cheng shoved the alarm clock into a drawer and covered it with a pillow. The ringing could still be heard, muffled, from inside the drawer. The next morning, he opened the drawer and the alarm clock was gone. He breathed a sigh of relief and went to work. When he returned home that evening, he found a new alarm clock on his nightstand. The hands were stopped at 3:07. But this time, there was a note beside the clock, written in elegant handwriting: "This one is more accurate. I took the old one back. Thank you for setting the time for me." A name was written on the back of the note. Chen Cheng looked it up online; it belonged to the previous tenant of the suite, who had passed away in her sleep two years prior. The time was 3:07 AM.
