Found something delicious today
Today, my girlfriend and I went to 'A'er Mala Hotpot' in Yun Ding. The weather was a bit chilly, so it was just perfect for this! We ordered a pot of Mala煲 (spicy hot pot), and it was still bubbling when it arrived at the table, with that spicy aroma hitting us directly. I think their soup base is really well-balanced – fragrant and rich, but not overwhelmingly spicy, making it very smooth to drink. The most surprising parts were the ingredients and the main dish: Dao Xiao Mian (Knife-cut noodles): I strongly recommend choosing the knife-cut noodles! The noodles have a great chewy texture, and because they're thick and curved, they perfectly soak up the mala soup. Every bite is packed with flavor. Duck Blood & Tofu: The duck blood pieces were large and had no gamey smell at all, with a very smooth texture. The tofu was the kind that slightly 'sprays' juice when you bite into it, having absorbed the braising liquid thoroughly. Vegetables and other ingredients: The cabbage and enoki mushrooms, soaked in the soup, tasted sweet and spicy, balancing out a lot of the greasiness. Overall, the portion size was very generous, and we both left incredibly full. The environment was clean, and the food came out quickly. It's the kind of place you'd definitely want to revisit when you're craving affordable Sichuan-style mala 👍
