Horror Short Story | Navigation
Shen Li drove to an out-of-town business trip, taking a mountain road for the first time. She set up her navigation and followed the voice prompts. After driving for nearly an hour, the navigation suddenly said, "Turn right in 300 meters." She looked at the road sign. To the right was a narrow path, unlit and seemingly unused for a long time. But she was in a hurry, so she turned in. The path grew darker and darker, with weeds on both sides, yet the navigation remained firm, repeatedly saying, "Go straight." After ten minutes of driving, an old house appeared ahead, its iron gate half-open, with lights on inside. The navigation announced, "You have arrived at your destination." Shen Li was stunned. Her destination was a hotel, not this place. She turned off the navigation and reset it. The navigation recalculated the route and said, "Please make a U-turn." She reversed and turned back onto the small path. The navigation said, "Turn left in 300 meters." Turning left led back to the main road she had entered from. She turned out and reset the hotel address. This time, the navigation worked normally, guiding her smoothly to the hotel. The next day, on her return trip, she passed that same mountain road. The navigation suddenly said, "Turn right in 300 meters." Remembering yesterday's events, she decided to ignore the navigation and continued straight. The navigation repeated "Turn right" three times, but she didn't turn. On the fourth try, the navigation's voice changed. It became a little girl's voice, very soft: "Why didn't you turn?" Shen Li gripped the steering wheel, not daring to respond. "Yesterday, when you turned in, I set the route for you. If you just followed it, you would have reached my house. Since you didn't turn today, I had to come out myself." Shen Li looked in the rearview mirror and saw a little girl sitting in the back seat.

AuthorShen Li saw a little girl in a red dress sitting in the back seat in the rearview mirror, fiddling with her fingers. "Auntie," the girl looked up, "I've been in the back seat since you turned in yesterday. Didn't you notice?" Shen Li suddenly remembered that when the navigation said 'You have arrived at your destination' yesterday, she did feel some extra weight in the back seat. But she thought it was luggage. The girl leaned forward, resting her chin on Shen Li's shoulder over the back of the seat: "I've lived in that house for a long time. I set up the navigation, so whenever someone turns in, I have a chance to hitch a ride. You're the first person I've hitched with." "Where are you going?" The girl smiled, revealing a row of neat teeth: "To your house. Your house is livelier than mine."
