⚠️ Warning for Diners: Are Aesthetic 'Wicker Baskets' Breeding Grounds for Kitchen Pests?

When ordering fried or grilled food at restaurants, you often see aesthetic plating using wicker baskets lined with greaseproof paper. While they look nice, they actually hide significant food safety and pest control blind spots! Many people assume it's clean as long as there's paper, but in reality, wicker products are made of countless interwoven bamboo strips, creating numerous tiny crevices. Oil from fried foods, food scraps, and sauces can easily seep deep inside through the edges of the paper. What's worse, bamboo is susceptible to moisture and extremely difficult to clean and dry thoroughly. In busy restaurant kitchens, staff often can only rinse or wipe them down simply. If they are stacked for storage without being completely dried after washing, mold will quickly develop inside. The hot and humid kitchen environment, combined with moldy bamboo ware, is a paradise for 'moisture pests' like booklice, dust mites, and pantry beetles, making it easy for them to multiply rampantly. 💡 3 Tips to Avoid Trouble and Protect Yourself: 1. Look and Smell: Check the edges of the wicker basket for black mold spots or if it smells musty. 2. Avoid Contact: Ensure food is completely separated by greaseproof paper and doesn't directly touch the wicker. 3. Choose Materials: Prioritize establishments that use 'food-grade imitation wicker plastic baskets,' as these can be sanitized at high temperatures in a dishwasher.
