Staying at inns doesn't always give experience points
I know that staying at an inn gives you experience points and allows you to level up, but it doesn't give you experience points every time you stay. Maybe there's a limit of once per day?…

You can upgrade the inn when it shows a red dot, but not when it's an orange dot.

AuthorIt seems like you only get experience points the first time you stay at each type of accommodation. Even if a red dot appears later, I haven't received any experience points after staying.

Staying doesn't give experience; you can only level up through accommodation when your EXP is full.

EXP is displayed very small at the very top of your character's info screen. It only accumulates while fighting monsters and is calculated when you sleep.
