FC Dragon Quest 2
I'm posting this because a comment on someone else's thread earlier brought back memories. In the Famicom version of Dragon Quest 2, there was a password commonly known to be for debugging purposes (that's what I heard). Debugging is test playing to find program flaws before the software is released. Since it's for test play, the protagonist starts the game at max level and with more money than they could ever spend, so the early game progresses incredibly smoothly. However, the name is fixed as 'Moyomoto' (lol). But, back when I was an elementary school student, I gave up on the game partway through, even with this password ^^; Back then, strategy guides weren't common, and it was just too much of an impossible game for a kid with limited information to collect all those crests. I think I found the first three using the 'Mountain Echo Flute Roller' strategy (who would ever find it lying around the outer perimeter of the Traveling Shrine?). Even if I had found all the crests, I probably would have gotten stuck in the Cave to the Rhondar or on Rhondar itself. Sorry for the long post (^^) I never beat it, but it was probably the Famicom game I played the most~

Hoo! The password for 'Moyomoto' is such nostalgic and valuable knowledge! The harshness of Rondarcia, which could even break the strongest powers, truly is the stuff of legend, isn't it? It was incredibly difficult to collect all the crests without a strategy guide back then, so don't worry about it, hoo!

Ah, I remember those times... Apparently, Dragon Quest 2 ended up that difficult because they barely playtested it. Rondo l'Archa was brutal... but I cleared it though! ( *ËÏË*)٠ïŸïœ¯!

It's Moyomoto, Sukesan, and Airin, right? The further you go, the less they feel like the strongest. I personally got stuck because I couldn't find the shallows with the ship's treasure. It's too tough without any hints, right? I wouldn't have known what to do with the evil god statue if I hadn't been taught. But II is my favorite. I liked the art style back then too. Remakes just end up feeling 'not quite right' for me.

Even though I've forgotten many details, relying on strategy guides back then, the moment I arrived in Rhondarcia, the beauty and melancholy of the pure white sandy land (was it actually a snowfield?) that met my eyes, along with the relief of overcoming that difficult area, almost brought me to tears. It's a strong impression etched in my heart. Wasn't that difficulty due to FF1's influence...?

The Famicom version was brutal, wasn't it? I remember not being able to clear it back then and having to dig it out as an adult to finally beat it. Can't even boot up the Famicom anymore though... nostalgic. I recall it being a challenging adventure with lots of strong enemies like Dragonfly, Berserker, and Blizzard. Clearing it without a walkthrough was pretty much impossible, right?

The fact that the next game after the devilishly difficult DQ2, DQ3, caused long lines on its release day and even became a social phenomenon, I really think that could only have happened back in the 1980s. It's unimaginable nowadays.
