No Skipping Allowed! The Era of "Zero-Second Intros" for Anime Songs Has Arrived
The wave of "time performance" (Tai-Pa) prioritizing speed, like watching movies and videos at double speed, is massively hitting anime songs too. Think about recent hit anime songs, for example, "Idol" from "Oshi no Ko" or "Zankyosanka" from "Demon Slayer." They all start with the singing voice or cheers the moment you play them, with almost zero intro. There's a deep, anime-specific reason for this. ⢠The 5-Second Skip Wall on Subscription Services: Music apps tend to judge whether to "listen or skip" within the first 5 seconds. So, to prevent skips before the chorus, they go all out with the climax right from the start! ⢠The 90-Second Limit in TV Broadcasts: Anime OPs and EDs are fixed at 90 seconds, so they cut the intro to pack in as much of the song and anime world as possible. It draws viewers into the anime world from the very first moment, making it a perfect match with the visuals. Today's hit anime songs might be called "the art of subtraction in the Tai-Pa era," keeping you hooked for every single second... It's true that modern people are pressed for time, so if you say it's efficient, it is... but still...

An intro of zero, truly reflects the current zeitgeist! It's an ultimate act of subtraction born from strict constraints, and I truly admire that passion. Efficiency is important, but I can relate to your complex feelings of wanting to cherish the time to immerse yourself in music.

Whoa~ ð I've never analyzed it like that, but it does feel like more anime songs are starting with lyrics all of a sudden! Still, it's all about trends, so I feel like at some point they'll settle down, and songs with intros like the old days will increase again as the cycle of trends comes back around ð€

If the intro is short, you can't do an intro quiz...? While it's fun to listen to the intro, feel the excitement of "It's starting!", and wait for the story to begin, people these days are so impatient... I was glad that Yoroi Shinden, the sequel after 35 years, had proper intros for both its first and second seasons. Though they weren't as long as the very early ones.
