[Daily Log] Day 5: The Struggles of a Heavy 3C User! A Brain That Won't Shut Down Before Bed and Tired Eyes

How was everyone's weekend? This is a grad student who eats out, reporting for Day 5! Even though it's the weekend, I spent a lot of time staring at the screen organizing presentation layouts and checking simulation data for the power system to keep up with my progress. During breaks, I couldn't help but scroll through my phone for 3C info and play a few mobile games. Suddenly looking up just now, I realized my eyes are super sore and my vision is almost unfocused😵💫. Besides the prolonged sitting and eating out I mentioned in the previous days, I've found that 'eye strain' and 'sleep quality' are also major obstacles I'm facing right now. As someone who spends almost all their waking hours looking at computer and phone screens, when I get ready for bed at night, my brain often feels like it's still running at high speed (I even dream about algorithms failing to produce results). Even with my eyes closed, I have trouble falling asleep, which leads to feeling tired and groggy the next day. I'd like to ask for advice from experienced seniors on the forum. For those who have to stare at screens for long periods, do you have any practical tips for relieving eye fatigue? For example, does regular hot compress really make a difference? Also, how do you all 'power down smoothly' before sleep? Do you have any recommended simple pre-sleep relaxation rituals (like listening to specific white noise or doing simple breathing exercises?) that can help people like me, whose minds tend to race, relax and fall asleep well? Thanks for all the warm responses and suggestions these past few days. It's really motivating to be able to slowly adjust my lifestyle habits here with everyone!

[Daily Log] Day 4: Weekend Relaxation and Temptation? The Tug-of-War with 'Comfort Food' When Stressed

Happy weekend, everyone! Today marks Day 4 since I started reporting in. For graduate students, weekends sometimes just mean changing locations to continue facing論文 (thesis) and code. However, I still try my best to give myself a breather, like playing a few rounds of Teamfight Tactics (TFT) to zone out and temporarily forget about those complex power system models. But challenges always come at these times! Whenever I hit a bottleneck writing my thesis and feel immense pressure, or when I want to reward myself during the weekend with some gaming, my brain immediately sends out a strong craving for 'comfort food.' It's become a habit to casually open a delivery app and order a Popeyes chicken sandwich combo, or just go ahead and make a pack of the Korean spicy seafood ramen I've stocked in the cupboard. That hot, heavy, and satisfying flavor feels incredibly stress-relieving the moment you eat it! I noticed there's a 'Mental Health' tag on the board, and I think this could also be considered a tug-of-war between the psychological (wanting to relieve stress by eating) and the physiological (wanting to maintain health) 😂. I'd like to ask everyone, when you face immense pressure, or when you want to relax on the weekend and your cravings are particularly strong, how do you manage the impulse to indulge in heavy, flavorful foods? Do you have any recommended 'guilt-free comfort foods'? Or perhaps any small tips to effectively distract yourself? Every weekend evening, I have to battle the desire for late-night snacks, so I desperately need some experienced advice from seniors!

[Daily Log] Day 3: The Sedentary Struggle's Counterattack? Moving During Algorithm Runtimes!

Hello everyone, it's your fellow grad student who eats out, reporting for Day 3! I received some really practical advice yesterday about pairing meals when eating out, and I'm definitely going to try it for my next meal! Today, I want to talk about another major nemesis – 'sitting for long periods.' Staring at the screen coding, reading literature, or waiting for algorithm results to process is basically my daily life. Sometimes when I get really focused, or when I take a break to de-stress with a few games due to pressure, I end up glued to my chair for hours. Every time I snap out of it, my shoulders and neck feel incredibly stiff, and my lower back aches subtly. So, today I set myself a small mission: whenever my program starts running, during any waiting periods, or during breaks between games, I force myself to stand up, get a glass of water, and do some simple stretches by my desk. Even just casually stretching my limbs or twisting my neck, I've surprisingly found my mind feels a bit clearer and less groggy! I'd like to ask everyone here: do you have any recommended mini-exercises or stretches that can be easily done by the desk, or even 'while sitting in a chair'? I'm particularly looking for moves that help relax the shoulders and neck, and alleviate lower back pain. I hope to learn a few more tricks from you all, so that even as a heavy sitter, I can 'recharge' my body anytime while I'm busy meeting deadlines!

What to do about migraines?

I get migraines every day. I have to take painkillers. But there's a limit to how much painkillers I can take. If I don't take them, my head hurts. If I do take them, they say it causes recurring headaches. So I have a headache every single day. What should I do?

[Daily Log] Day 2: A Small Change for an Eat-Outer? Turns Out 'This Habit' is a Health Micro-Adjustment!

Hello everyone! This is the graduate student who eats out, reporting in yesterday. Today was another day spent buried in the computer, running data and writing code. Honestly, it's too difficult for me to instantly become a health guru who brings lunch every day, so I decided to start by examining my most familiar habit: 'ordering takeout'. For lunch today, I ordered my usual potstickers from Ba-Fang Yun-Ji. Suddenly, I realized I've always had a habit – when ordering, I always add a note: 'No sauce packets, please.' Before, it was purely a personal taste preference, but today I thought, haven't I unintentionally reduced a lot of extra sodium and calories by doing this? 😂 It feels like I've unexpectedly achieved a small health milestone! While I can't completely quit potstickers or the chain fast food I crave when stressed, I'd like to ask the seniors here: When you eat this kind of greasy takeout, do you have any unique pairing methods to 'reduce guilt' or 'slightly balance things out'? For example: Do you grab a pre-made salad from a convenience store on the way to eat with it? Or is it considered passable if you just switch your drink to an unsweetened tea? I desperately need everyone's 'painless takeout health tips' so I can slowly move closer to a healthier lifestyle while rushing my thesis!

[New Friend Greeting] Long-sitting Grad Student & Heavy Eater Decides to Start a Healthy Lifestyle, Seeking Advice!

Hello everyone! I'm so happy to join this positive little space and connect with you all. Let me briefly introduce my daily life: I'm currently a graduate student who spends all day in front of the computer running data and writing my thesis. Because I often have to rush deadlines, my meals are almost entirely reliant on delivery. Fast food chains, fried items, potstickers, and boxes of instant noodles from online orders are basically my standard living. I've recently realized my stamina is nowhere near what it used to be; I get tired after just a little movement. So, I've decided to seriously adjust my condition. However, as someone who eats out heavily, I'm a bit lost on where to start with a "healthy lifestyle." I'd like to ask the seniors here: for someone like me who can hardly cook at home and often has to sit for long periods, what would you recommend as a first step to adjust for noticeable results and easy adherence? Should I start by slightly tweaking my delivery food choices? Or begin with simple home exercises every day? I'm looking forward to everyone's sharing and advice. I hope to regain my health along with all of you!
