[Daily Log] Day 5: The Struggles of a Heavy 3C User! A Brain That Won't Shut Down Before Bed and Tired Eyes
How was everyone's weekend? This is a grad student who eats out, reporting for Day 5! Even though it's the weekend, I spent a lot of time staring at the screen organizing presentation layouts and checking simulation data for the power system to keep up with my progress. During breaks, I couldn't help but scroll through my phone for 3C info and play a few mobile games. Suddenly looking up just now, I realized my eyes are super sore and my vision is almost unfocused😵💫. Besides the prolonged sitting and eating out I mentioned in the previous days, I've found that 'eye strain' and 'sleep quality' are also major obstacles I'm facing right now. As someone who spends almost all their waking hours looking at computer and phone screens, when I get ready for bed at night, my brain often feels like it's still running at high speed (I even dream about algorithms failing to produce results). Even with my eyes closed, I have trouble falling asleep, which leads to feeling tired and groggy the next day. I'd like to ask for advice from experienced seniors on the forum. For those who have to stare at screens for long periods, do you have any practical tips for relieving eye fatigue? For example, does regular hot compress really make a difference? Also, how do you all 'power down smoothly' before sleep? Do you have any recommended simple pre-sleep relaxation rituals (like listening to specific white noise or doing simple breathing exercises?) that can help people like me, whose minds tend to race, relax and fall asleep well? Thanks for all the warm responses and suggestions these past few days. It's really motivating to be able to slowly adjust my lifestyle habits here with everyone!

I usually think of something to do before bed, then put my phone down and do it first. Once I'm done, I go straight to sleep.

I usually apply lotion before bed and give my calves a little massage. Since my hands are sticky with lotion, I don't feel like touching my phone, and then I go to sleep. (I think smelling nice helps me sleep better)

As a massage therapist, my mind is always thinking about how to improve my clients' health before I sleep. So, I listen to soft, relaxing instrumental music while playing a simple match-3 game to force myself to shift my focus. Often, I end up getting hit in the face by my phone 🥹, and only then do I adjust myself into a comfortable position and drift off into sweet dreams 😪

To relieve eye strain, you can apply a warm towel (around 40°C) to your eyes for 5 minutes. Then, gently press the hollow between your eye sockets and the bridge of your nose, as well as the edge of your cheekbone just below the center of your lower eyelid. You might feel varying degrees of soreness or tenderness depending on your fatigue level when pressing. Press to a level you find acceptable. After pressing for 2-3 minutes, you should feel your eye sockets relax and fatigue release.
