Half a Watermelon in the Fridge
After my grandmother passed away, I went back to my hometown to sort through her belongings. When I opened the refrigerator, I found half a watermelon inside, carefully wrapped in plastic wrap, with a note next to it that read: 'Eat this when Ah-ming gets back.' That was my childhood nickname. When I was little, Grandma would always buy a watermelon whenever I visited during summer vacation. Her teeth weren't great, but she always saved the sweetest piece for me. As I got older, I found her frequent calls annoying and often hung up after a brief chat. On our last call, she asked when I was coming home. I said, 'I'm busy with work lately, I'll come by in a bit.' She just replied, 'Okay, if you're busy.' After that, I never received another call from her. Standing in front of the fridge, I took out the half watermelon. The flesh had already spoiled, and even the plastic wrap had lost its original transparency. I threw it in the trash and sat in the kitchen, crying for a long time. That night, my mom sent me a photo taken the last time Grandma went to the market before she passed. She was standing in front of a watermelon stall, holding a watermelon, smiling and asking the vendor which one was the sweetest. The date was written on the back of the photo. It was the very day I had said, 'I'll come by in a bit.' I finally understood. That half watermelon wasn't for her to eat. She just kept believing that I would be home soon. <It's only after growing up that you realize, some people aren't waiting for you anymore; by the time you finally return, they can no longer wait.>

The Application Form That Was Never Sent
In high school, Ah-Cheh wanted to participate in the school-wide public speaking competition. He practiced in his room for a whole month. When he finally tried speaking in front of his family, he got so nervous he forgot his lines, drawing laughter from his younger brother. He crumpled up the application form, feeling he was completely unsuited for it. The next day, his teacher noticed he hadn't submitted the form and asked why. Ah-Cheh lowered his head and said, "I'm afraid of embarrassing myself on stage." The teacher didn't comfort him, but simply asked, "Then, did you practice for a month to guarantee you wouldn't embarrass yourself, or to enable yourself to stand on stage someday?" That question made him fall silent for a long time. Finally, he reprinted the application form and submitted it. On the day of the competition, he still forgot a part of his speech, his palms sweating. In the end, he only got third place. He was very disappointed, but he didn't crumple up his report card this time. The following year, he joined the public speaking club, practicing pronunciation, controlling his breathing, and learning to face mistakes. Before graduation, he participated in the competition again. This time, as he stood on stage, looking at the nervous, trembling freshmen in the audience, he suddenly remembered himself from that year. He didn't win first place, but after it was over, he received a note: "Senpai, seeing you makes me feel like I can try too." That day, Ah-Cheh put the note in his wallet. He finally understood that what he had truly overcome wasn't the ranking, but the self who couldn't even dare to apply back then. <Growth isn't about one day finally not being afraid, but about when you are afraid, you are still willing to fill out that application form for yourself.>

Delivery Driver Turned Night Guard Fired for Sleeping on the Job, Throws Items at Supervisor in Rage
An outrageous labor dispute occurred in a commercial building in Sanchong District, New Taipei City. A male security guard, who transitioned from being a delivery driver, started his night shift on October 5th but was accused of repeatedly turning off the lights and sleeping during his duty hours. The building's general manager stated that the security guard appeared normal during the interview, but after starting work, he not only became addicted to his phone but also directly expressed 'I don't want to patrol,' and asked if he could sleep and use his phone. On his second day of work, he directly inquired with his supervisor about the feasibility of sleeping on the job, essentially treating the guardhouse as a free hotel. On the night shifts of October 6th and 7th, the security guard slept with the lights off while on duty. As the security guard's responsibility is to protect the building's safety, management was concerned about the impact on the safety of residents and tenant companies, and decided to inform him of his unsuitability. To their surprise, upon learning of his dismissal, the security guard lost emotional control on the spot, yelled at his supervisor, threw items at people, and accused the company of malicious termination, causing a disturbance in the guardhouse for over an hour. Police were notified and arrived to maintain order, asking both parties to calm down. They explained to the security guard that if the company decided to dismiss him, he could not forcibly remain on the premises, as it could constitute trespassing. The security guard eventually expressed understanding. The company immediately paid him his wages for the three days, at a rate of NT$1800 per day. The operator lamented that recruiting security personnel is already difficult, and after finally finding a new hire, they encountered a situation where 'the person is at their post, but their mind has already entered dreamland.' Considering that building safety cannot be neglected, they had no choice but to reluctantly dismiss him. They hired you to work, but you don't want to do what you're supposed to, and you sleep with the lights off? Getting fired is your own fault, and you still have the nerve to lose control 🙄 Sleeping for 3 days and still getting paid, must be nice 🙄

Dried Tofu
Dried tofu has been one of my favorite snacks since I was little. But nowadays, I get scared when I see GMO products and hesitate to buy them. For those who like dried tofu, do you eat GMO soy products?

What's the best way to take fish oil? 1. Check the EPA + DHA content: Don't just look at the total weight of the fish oil. For example, a capsule labeled 1000 mg doesn't necessarily contain 1000 mg of EPA + DHA. 2. Take it with meals: It's usually absorbed better and less likely to cause fishy burps if taken with a meal containing some fat. 3. Don't self-medicate with high doses: High doses may increase the risk of bleeding, and for some people, may increase the risk of atrial fibrillation. If you are taking blood thinners, bleed easily, or have arrhythmias, it's best to consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting supplementation.
