🐦 Today's Bird|Fairy Pitta

The Fairy Pitta is a summer migratory bird in Taiwan, arriving each spring and summer to breed before flying to Southeast Asia for the winter. It's plump and round, about 18 cm long, with incredibly vibrant plumage: brown on the crown, black stripes around the eyes, vibrant green on the back, blue on the shoulders, orange-yellow on the belly, and red feathers under the tail. It prefers humid forests and dense thickets in low-lying areas, often foraging among leaf litter on the ground. Its diet mainly consists of earthworms, insects, and other small invertebrates. Despite its brilliant colors, it's very good at hiding and hard to spot. 🌿 Fun Fact The call of the Fairy Pitta is often described as a loud "whee-whee" sound. During breeding season, it builds a ground nest with an entrance, shaped like a ball, which is quite different from many birds that nest in trees. Habitat protection in Taiwan's low-altitude forests is crucial for its successful breeding.

Taitung's Old Soldier Beef Noodles Have Been Fragrant for 25 Years, Free for the 80+

A beef noodle shop in Taitung's Taimali Township has been fragrant for over 25 years, attracting customers with its rich broth and unique flavor of freshly stir-fried sauerkraut. The owner proudly offers free noodles to elders aged 80 and above. Mr. Li Zongjun, who served in the military for 21 years, dedicated himself to culinary arts after retirement, insisting that beef is never kept overnight. He stated that his past salary came from taxpayers' money, and now he hopes to give back to the elders with a bowl of noodles. The shop displays a red banner reading 'Republic of China Army Academy Alumni Association,' reflecting its military connection. Li Zongjun, who used to repair electronic equipment in the army, worked in a Taipei restaurant after his discharge. His passion for cooking led him to start a beef noodle business. He tasted noodles at various shops in northern Taiwan and spent half a year perfecting his own recipe. He first opened a shop in Taipei before deciding to return to his hometown, settling in Taimali, where he has been selling noodles for over 25 years. "There are as many beef noodle shops in Taiwan as there are betel nut stands; the only difference is how well they are cooked," Li Zongjun said. He emphasized that every step, from blanching the beef and stir-frying the aromatics to simmering it in the pot, must be done meticulously. He also insists on not keeping beef overnight, believing it affects the meat's quality and texture, bluntly stating, "It's really unpalatable if it's kept overnight." A regular customer, Ms. Zhang, mentioned that her children live elsewhere, and it's usually just her and her husband at home. She frequents the shop because the beef noodles are delicious and reasonably priced, with tender and smooth beef. Another customer, Mr. Lin, praised the broth as rich and not greasy, the noodles as chewy, and added that the homemade pickled chili hearts further enhance the flavor.

'If I'm not okay, why should others be?' Kaohsiung Man Arrested for Slashing 38 Motorcycle Seats

A serial motorcycle vandalism incident occurred in Kaohsiung's Fengshan District on the morning of the 14th. A 38-year-old man, identified as Lin, armed with a fruit knife, walked through the areas of Dongfu Street, Zhongshan East Road, Fenglin Road, and Chengde Street, randomly slashing the seats of parked motorcycles. Preliminary statistics show that 38 motorcycles were affected, with their seats 'gutted,' exposing the inner foam. Many vehicle owners, upon discovering their vehicles damaged on their way to work, were enraged and successively reported the incidents to the police. Upon receiving the reports, the police immediately reviewed surveillance footage from the surrounding areas to investigate. They discovered that Lin, wielding a fruit knife about 23 cm long, traversed the streets for approximately 1.2 kilometers, slashing at any motorcycle he encountered in a brazen manner. The police tracked him down and found Lin asleep at a table inside a convenience store on Fenglin Road. When officers tried to wake him, he remained completely silent. It is understood that Lin is unemployed and has a prior record for robbery. He committed a theft case in New Taipei City just last month and has now traveled south to Kaohsiung to offend again. During casual conversation with the police, Lin inadvertently blurted out, 'If I'm not okay, why should others be?' revealing a strong anti-social mentality. However, when formally questioned for the record, he remained completely silent and refused to admit his actions. After collecting relevant evidence, the police applied for an arrest warrant from the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, which was approved. Lin was apprehended on the spot, and the fruit knife used in the crime was seized. Following interrogation, he was transferred for prosecution on charges of property damage and obstruction of public order, and the prosecutor has requested his detention. Seriously, with such conclusive evidence and an anti-social tendency, why can't they just release his photo without blurring? 🙄 Today it's just slashing seats, but what about tomorrow??

New Feature: Bulletin Board

They claim this is a new way to earn gems, but honestly, earning reward points through surveys has been around for ages, so that's not the main point. The real issue is that the survey content is clearly machine-translated. It's bad enough that it's hard to understand due to poor translation, but if it crashes halfway through, you can't go back. It's a waste of time with no reward.
